Beautiful property with a few things to note for future guests..

We stayed here for two nights over Valentine’s weekend and overall had a good experience, with some truly standout features and a few important things future guests should know.

First, the positives -\ because there are many. The views are absolutely spectacular. Truly the kind that make you pause and just breathe. The cabin itself is super clean, modern, and thoughtfully stocked with appliances and kitchen tools (though oddly, no wine opener - a small but surprising omission for a mountain getaway!).

Parking was easy, directions were spot-on, and the road access was no issue at all. The beds were a major highlight, especially in the downstairs double room. Instead of the typical small twin beds, there were two true queen beds that were spacious and extremely comfortable. Huge win.

The hot tub is also impressively large, with an incredible view from the deck. There were plenty of chairs and even firewood ready for the firepit, which made the outdoor space feel inviting and well-prepared.

The people I called at the office were very friendly and helpful.

Now for the concerns:

The downstairs has two bedrooms that share one large, beautiful bathroom -but it has only a barn door with no lock. For a shared bathroom setup, this felt like a big oversight. We had to create a “knock if the door is closed” system among ourselves. A simple lock would make a huge difference in privacy and comfort.

The upstairs master bedroom has east-facing windows with no shades, which makes sleeping in nearly impossible once the sun comes up. Some form of blackout or even light-filtering shades would greatly improve the experience.

Weirdly all of the emails I received from the rental ocmpany did NOT list a check out time ... So note that it's 10 AM!

The biggest disappointment was the hot tub temperature upon arrival. We arrived Friday evening and it was at 68°F. It did not reach a usable te

Fantastic property and amazing views!

This is truly a remarkable property. The amenities--the kitchen, bathrooms, living areas, fireplaces, entertainment (TV/Internet)--are all first rate. And you can't beat the location. You're on top of the world, looking down at the rolling mountains and countryside. Plus, you're only 15 minutes from the cozy town of West Jefferson, with its restaurants, shopping and two—count ‘em, two!—breweries.

We also have had great experiences with the folks at the management company, who are always friendly, available and helpful. Check-in and check-out are easy, with no onerous actions on the renters’ part (e.g., no requirement to wash linens before departure).

It should be noted that the house has eastern (sunrise) views, and in the fall/winter months, with the sun low in the sky, it can be quite bright in the mornings. And the King rooms don’t have blinds on the balcony doors, so the sun will wake you up quite early. (We ended up stacking couch cushions against the balcony door window overnight!)

But this is merely a nit in what otherwise was an incredible stay in our “home away from home,” and we will definitely be returning to this property on our next trip to “the coolest corner of NC!”

Great Views with Issues

We had to buy a rubber mat to put on the downstairs shower floor so that we would have something to stand on because the floor was done using what look like small uneven river rock. No shades in the master bath window. No A/C downstairs with no screens for the windows. No shades or blinds for the breakfast windows. Need more than one pot to cook with. Not crazy about the strobe lighting in the living area which made my wife feel a little uncomfortable. How ever it was very clean, had plenty of coat hangers and appreciate having soap at all the lavatories. The view was absolutely breath taking from all the rooms.

hank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your stay at Skyview Hideaway. We’re so glad to hear that you found the cabin very clean, well-stocked with essentials, and that you enjoyed the breathtaking mountain views! We also appreciate your helpful suggestions regarding the shower flooring, window coverings, and lighting. Your comments will be shared with the homeowner so these items can be reviewed for future improvements. While the lower level of the cabin does not have traditional central A/C, it tends to stay quite cool throughout most of the year due to the mountain climate and shaded surroundings. We also wanted to note that the kitchen is equipped with numerous pots, pans, and other cookware for guest use. We do wish you had called to inquire about the location of it. Thank you again for your honest feedback and for staying with us.

Great house, very clean. Would recommend. Driving directions were spot on. View is phenomenal!! Very minor ideas for next trip, porch has 2 chairs, might want to bring a couple more. No chairs out by fire pit or hot tub, so folding tailgate chairs would come in handy. But did I mention the view? Fantastic!

Manager Responded on 5/27/2025

Thank you for leaving a review of your recent stay at Skyview Hideaway. We will talk to the owners about getting some more outdoor chairs. We look forward to your next stay.
