What to Do in The Carolina Mountains – Fall

Imagine mountains painted with vibrant colors and a sparkling river winding through the mountains and you get an idea of why so many guests head to the Carolina Mountains to take in the breathtaking views that occur with the fall foliage. While you’re visiting, make plans to attend one of the many festivals. The Stomp and Brew Festival in downtown West Jefferson features craft beer, wine & cider tasting, live music, food trucks, craft vendors, and custom car show. Another must do is the Woolly Worm Festival, which determines the woolly worm that will be used to predict the coming winter’s weather forecast. In addition, to the Woolly Worm races, the festival features crafts, food vendors, live entertainment and much more.

Perhaps you just need a weekend getaway to relax and unwind? Spend the morning enjoying a morning cup of coffee at your rental while taking in the spectacular mountain views, take a scenic drive in the afternoon along the Blue Ridge Parkway or to Grayson Highlands State Park, and dine out in the evening at one of our many area restaurants.

Hiking/Biking– The Carolina Mountains offer breathtaking scenery and there’s no better way to take it all in by biking/hiking throughout the area. The Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Grayson Highlands State Park, Mount Jefferson State Park, and Virginia Creeper Trail are just a few of the places you can hike/bike to enjoy the views.

Festivals & Fall Activities – Everyone loves to celebrate the fall foliage with special events and the Carolina Mountains are no different.

Ashe County Corn Maze – opens September 16, 2023. The Ashe County Corn Maze has quickly become a family tradition.  It is a perfect activity for the whole family to enjoy.  The corn maze itself is around 4 acres and can take as little as 30 minutes and up to an hour or so.

Festival of the Frescoes – Glendale Springs 2023 A traditional country fair will be held on the grounds of the Mission House across the street from the church. Features homemade arts and crafts and wonderful baked goods. Classic fun for all as this is reminiscent of a traditional country fair.

Stomp & Brew Fest – located in downtown West Jefferson, this festival consists of craft beer, wine & cider tasting, live music, food trucks, craft vendors, and custom car show.

Woolly Worm Festival – Woolly Worm races, the festival features crafts, food vendors, live entertainment and much more.
