SUMMARY:Fraser's Mountain Encounter
DESCRIPTION:Experience the North Carolina mountains through the eyes of Jamie Fraser! Our first stop on this tour will be at Stone Mountain State Park where the massive granite dome keeps watch on park visitors enjoying a host of outdoor activities. The mountain also keeps watch over the old\, abandoned Hutchinson Homestead where we can envision life on the farm from years past. There will be plenty of time for exploration as we share informative commentary along the way. Leaving Stone Mountain behind us\, we’ll be ready for a scrumptious lunch at the restaurant at Roaring River Vineyards\, Chez Josephine. Their location is nestled along the Roaring River and offers a calm and scenic atmosphere. For dessert\, we’ll savor melt-in-your-mouth cookies from Sweet & Savory Bakery & Deli. Of course\, our visit would not be complete without sampling some of the delicious wines from the vineyards while there! Next\, we will head back to Wilkesboro where we’ll enjoy a tour of the Wilkes Heritage Museum plus the home of Captain Robert Cleveland and the Old Wilkes Jail where Tom Dula (“Hang Down Your Head\, Tom Dooley”) was incarcerated after being charged with the mid 19th-century murder of Laura Foster. After the museum\, we’ll head over to Leatherwood Mountains Resort where we’ll participate in a Native American Wilderness Walk with a Pasqua Yaqui Tribal Member where we’ll learn about how the Native Americans gleaned from North Carolina wilderness items used in their day-to-day lives. Don’t you know Claire would have thoroughly enjoyed foraging through the woods with us! After working up an appetite during our walk\, we’ll enjoy a mouth-watering dinner together at Leatherwood’s Restaurant\, Saddlebrook Grill. The grill is inviting and cozy and the perfect place for relaxation in the heart of mountain country. The day will end at Leatherwood’s Hendrix Cabin where we’ll learn all about local ghosts\, tales and spirits by the glow of candlelight. And who knows…could there be fairies in these here mountains?
